This page has links to photos from our 2007
summer vacation. Pam and Taylor and I took off from our Eugene, Oregon
home at the end of June and headed to Bear Lake (Garden City), Utah. On Friday
and Saturday we had fun with all our Christensen cousins (my mom's side).
Most of them all went home by that Sunday but most of us Leucks stayed on and
partied through Thursday the following week. That included a run down to
Logan for a spectacular 4th of July fireworks show at Utah State stadium
That same day Pam and I went down early to locate and take pictures of a few
ancestral family graves which happened to be right across the street from the
stadium. we had lucky timing as they locked up the cemetery just as we
left. We were able to locate the graves of James Neils Christensen (my
great grandfather) who, with his son, James Jr. (age 16) were killed in an
avalanche in Box Elder Canyon. They were located together with Anna Sophia
Jeppesen Christensen, a few other Christensens as well as some of the Rosenbaum
family who were cousins of my mom. We also located the graves of Joel
Ricks and his two wives. Joel was the father of Thomas Edwin Ricks (for
whom Ricks College was originally named -- now called BYU-Idaho, much to our
family's chagrin). Joel was also the father of Josiah Ricks, my
great-grandfather who was born in Nauvoo and at roughly one year old made the
trip with the first Saints and Brigham Young to Salt Lake City in 1847.
We had a great time that included two days in Boise on the way home seeing some
old friends including the YM's president of my youth (Randy Vail and his wife
Carolyn) as well as Lynn & Linda Schoenfeld who had just moved there that week.
Taylor and Pam also spent some time at the local water park while I got to just
sit and read a book - something I also enjoy.
I have organized all of the photos I took from this book into folders you can
reach through the links to your left. All of these photos have been
reduced in size to 640 x 480 (roughly 100kb) to make it easy to view and load to
the internet. All photos in their original size are about 2300x2100
(roughly 1 to 1.5mb). If you see anything you like and want a full size
copy, just email me (click here) and I'll
email it to you.
