Obituary: Katherine E. "Kay" Vetsch, 87, of Boise, died Wednesday, Oct. 14,
1998, in a Boise hospital of natural causes.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at University Christian Church. The Rev. Ken Stamper will officiate.
Services are under direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.
Private inurnment will be in Morris Hill Cemetery.
Katherine E. "Kay" was born Feb. 27, 1911, at Wakefield, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Wilhemina Muth Leuck. She was raised in Nyssa, Ore., and graduated from Nyssa High School in 1930. She attended the University of Oregon for four years, then earned her registered nursing degree in Washington, D.C. She moved to Portland, Ore., and was married there to Frank P. Vetsch on Feb. 27, 1947. She worked as a nurse at Dornbecker Children's Hospital in Portland before moving to Boise in 1960. She taught nursing for a time and worked in St.
Luke's Hospital pediatrics department until retirement in 1976.
Kay enjoyed walking, sewing, quilting, embroidery, and traveled extensively after her retirement. She enjoyed people, especially her family. In 1986, she took a week to venture into whitewater rafting, and in 1987, tried skiing for the first time. She also was an avid bowler and a member of the St. Luke's Hospital bowling team for several years.
She was a longtime member of University Christian Church, where she was active in the Solo Friends Sunday school class and Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a member of St. Luke's Retirees Association, and a longtime member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Frank and Marie Vetsch, and John and Tricia Vetsch, all of Boise; three grandchildren, Emily and Cara Vetsch of Boise, and Jonathan
"Jeremiah" Vetsch and his wife, Terri of Spokane, Wash.; two stepgrandchildren, Amy Engelbert of Denver, Colo., and Heidi Knebel and her husband, Rob of Mountain Home; two great-stepgrandchildren, Ira "Tre" and Jasmine Harge. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966; and by five brothers and two sisters.
The family suggests memorials to the Neonatal Infant Care Unit at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, 190 E. Bannock, Boise 83712; or University Christian Church, 1801 University Drive, Boise 83706.
